Meet the 2016 PianoArtists

Posted on: April 10th, 2016

PianoArts will welcome, June 2-8, a select group of ten pianists, ages 16-20, from across the United States, for the twelfth North American Competition and Music Festival. To qualify as PianoArtists, these pianists auditioned in a rigorous, anonymous preliminary round in March: JeongMin Kim, Yuan Liu, Evelyn Mo, Linda Ruan, John Schindler, Aristo Sham, Athena Tsianos, Harvey Wu, Seho Young, and Angie Zhang.

During the competition rounds, PianoArtists will perform a solo recital and an ensemble recital; three finalists will perform a complete concerto with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Each PianoArtist will partner with a musician from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to perform a duo in the ensemble recital and with quintets in seminars highlighting the interactions of pianists and conductors performing concertos. PianoArtists also will have the opportunity to share in $27,000 in prizes, performances, a scholarship to a summer music institute, and PianoArts Fellowships.

Both competition juries are comprised of distinguished concert artists and pedagogues. The preliminary jury members were Evelyne Brancart, Frederic Chiu, and Stijn De Cock; in June, the PianoArtists will perform for Joseph Kalichstein, Ursula Oppens, and Peter Takács.
